In the course of the “Regionale 2016”, a new development area based on the rich textile tradition was created on both sides of the Bocholter Aa with the functions of housing, culture/education and textile industry. This also includes several bridges over the Aa, the connection in terms of content through the “Textile Gardens” as well as the establishment of the LernWerk with VHS, music school, young university, the cultural administration and more. Particularly exciting is a 300sqm annexe where the independent cultural scene will “let off steam”. In the centre are the two sites of the TextilWerk with the weaving mill and the spinning mill. In the carefully restored industrial monument, the past and present of textiles come alive. Special exhibitions provide insights into historical and modern technology, show fashion design and international textile art.

The rock’n’popmuseum am Inselpark in the centre of Gronau tells the story of popular music of the 20th and 21st centuries. In the exhibition, all age groups will find a multimedia experience of sounds, images and exhibits. Visitors can look forward to a thematically and creatively fascinating walk through the dimensions of popular music. Elaborately staged showcases form thematic islands that are grouped around concepts such as rebellion, live on stage or performance. The house also sees itself as a place of science and education. It has created an extensive database on rock and pop music, offers workshops and seminars and develops educational programmes for schools. High-ranking relics of pop music and an innovative sound system round off the exhibition concept, which is unique in Germany.

The Foundation “Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen“ awards around forty working scholarships a year in the fields of visual art, literature and experimental composition. Since the foundation of the artists’ village in 1989, a total of about 800 artists and authors have been supported. The scholarships are linked to a stay in the artists’ village of two to six months each. The programme organised by the Künstlerdorf offers the opportunity to gain regular insights into artistic processes and to engage in personal exchange with the scholarship holders. In addition to the ongoing events, the Künstlerdorf organises the annual CAP curator programme with the aim of developing contemporary strategies and structures for artistic productions and clarifying implementation issues.
