Fresh jazz within old castle walls, rocking open-air concerts in the castle courtyard, museum festivals with crossover music for all generations: First-class concerts with international stars are the trademark of Vischering Castle, the most important and most beautiful ring-mantled castle in Westphalia. The defiant 13th-century fortress, which was also strongly influenced by the Renaissance, also houses a museum on its history. The uniquely idyllic landscape around the castle, criss-crossed by moats, becomes a venue for sound art. The castle is run by the culture department of the district of Coesfeld.

Heimathaus Altenberge

Starting from the Heimathaus, the former “Kittken“ at the old cemetery, further buildings from the surrounding area have been rebuilt here in the course of the last years in the middle of the village and adjacent to a small park area. Around a picturesque inner courtyard, an ensemble of buildings and gardens has been created, which not only preserves the history, but also allows for new uses. Festivals and events, conferences, weddings, exhibitions and the entire club life of the local history society take place here. The ensemble consists of a home, a bakehouse, a granary, a barn, a clog maker’s workshop, a coach house, a courtyard and a farm garden. The Heimatverein is also in charge of Altenberge’s historic ice cellar, which was converted into a museum and event venue as part of the Regionale 2004 and also looks back on a long tradition as the venue for the SOUNDSEEING sound festival.

LernWerk and LWL-Industriemuseum TextilWerk Bocholt

Industriestraße 5 | D 46395 Bocholt | +49 (0)2871 2522-18
ehemalige Weberei Textil-Werk Bocholt

In the course of the “Regionale 2016”, a new development area based on the rich textile tradition was created on both sides of the Bocholter Aa with the functions of housing, culture/education and textile industry. This also includes several bridges over the Aa, the connection in terms of content through the “Textile Gardens” as well as the establishment of the LernWerk with VHS, music school, young university, the cultural administration and more. Particularly exciting is a 300sqm annexe where the independent cultural scene will “let off steam”. In the centre are the two sites of the TextilWerk with the weaving mill and the spinning mill. In the carefully restored industrial monument, the past and present of textiles come alive. Special exhibitions provide insights into historical and modern technology, show fashion design and international textile art.
